Understand the changes needed to improve

As you review the delivery of your programme, it’s likely you’ll find aspects of it that aren’t being done as you intended, or as well as you’d like.

If you’re just starting out it will take some time before you are delivering it as intended. And even if your programme is well established, staff will leave, volunteers move on, and so delivery of the programme as intended might get tricky.

By working out why those aspects are not being delivered as well as you want, you can then make changes to improve.

What to measure

Refer back to your implementation plan . Are you doing everything that you thought would be necessary to deliver the programme as intended?

For example:

Your Theory of Change describes that a trusting relationship with a peer supporter is vital for achievement of the outcomes. Your programme model states that a peer supporter should work with a mum for at least three months in order to build that trusting relationship. When reviewing the delivery of the programme you find that many volunteers are leaving after just one month of working with a mum.

Look at the selection and recruitment section of your Implementation Plan. Are you doing everything you planned to recruit volunteers who understand the role and are able to give an ongoing commitment?
