Setting up an office base

You will need to set up an appropriately sized, secure office base that is realistically equipped to operate your programme on a day-to-day basis.

This needs to be accessible to staff and volunteers.

You will need:

  • Desks and lockable filing cabinets
  • IT equipment
  • Phone line and Wi-Fi
  • Printer
  • Storage space.

Deciding where to locate

Where you locate your operational base is a big decision. While you want to collaborate with professionals, co-location could put some less engaged families off coming to you, especially if they are wary of professionals. Establishing a welcoming, neutral operational base in the heart of a community where pregnant women can 'pop in for a chat' is ideal.

Co-locating with an existing voluntary sector organisation might also work. Consider what would work best for volunteers and the expectant and new parents you want to support.
