The Maternal Mental Health Alliance have published a new report looking at the impact of maternal mental health during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Thanks to funding from Comic Relief, the MMHA commissioned Centre for Mental Health to explore the growing evidence about the pandemic's impact on perinatal mental health and the services that support women and families during this time.
This report brings together, for the first time, all of the available data collected during the pandemic looking at the mental health challenges that women during and after pregnancy have faced.
The evidence shows a significant increase in maternal mental health problems across the UK over the last 12 months'
Discover the key findings and recommendations that emerged.
In response to the evidence, MMHA are calling for:
1. Ministers to protect and enhance services supporting perinatal mental health, including voluntary sector groups
2. Relevant bodies to re-assess the true level of demand in light of the pandemic
3. Research to be commissioned on the pandemic’s ongoing impact, including for women and babies of colour, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
