Prepare for real-life scenarios at our in-person Infant & Toddler First Aid Workshop.

NOVEMBER INFANT AND TODDLER FIRST AID

DATES

Tuesday 4th November

TIME

7:00-9:30pm

LOCATION

St Catherine's Church, 120 Southend Road, Wickford, SS11 8EB

COST

£25 per person

This information-packed course is designed for expectant parents, and parents of young babies up to pre-school age, to develop their first aid skills in a safe, friendly, and educational environment. Grandparents and extended family members are also very welcome.

You'll prepare for real-life scenarios - from everyday cuts and scrapes to more serious emergencies - that could occur to your baby or toddler at any time.

You'll learn about specific first aid advice and techniques needed for babies and toddlers, and get to practise these on our baby and toddler-sized Little Annie CPR mannequins.

The course is run by our highly experienced, fully certified, first aid trainer, Sally Taylor.

What you'll learn from our Infant and Toddler First Aid class:

  • How to resuscitate a baby or toddler. Learn the different recovery positions for babies and toddlers, as well as appropriate baby and infant CPR methods. Put your learning into practice using our baby and toddler-sized Little Annie mannequins.
  • What to do if your baby chokes. If an object obstructs a child’s airway it can cause them to choke, which can lead to death. Our trainers will cover the signs of choking and treatment. Again, participants will also get the opportunity to practice using Baby Annie mannequins.
  • How to treat burns. We'll discuss what to do if your baby or toddler suffers a burn or scold, covering every scenario from clothing being on fire, to sunburn and chemical burns.
  • How to tell if your child has a serious illness. We'll cover the most common things to look out for if your baby or toddler is seriously ill, and what to do if you recognise any of these symptons in your little one.
  • How to deal with a high temperature. In children under 5, a fever is considered to be a temperature of 37.5C (99.5F) or above. We'll teach you how to tell if your child has fever, how to care for your child, what medications to give and more.
  • How to recognise the signs of meningitis. Meningitis can affect anyone, but is most common in babies, young children, teenagers and young adults. Meningitis can be very serious if not treated quickly. We'll teach you how to spot the signs of meningitis and when to seek medical support.
  • How to deal with a head injury. Most head injuries are not serious, which means you don't usually need to go to hospital. We'll cover how to know when you can treat a head injury at home and what to do, and when you need to seek medical help.
  • How to spot sepsis. Sepsis can be life threatening, but it can be hard to spot. We'll cover how to recognise the common symptoms of sepsis and what to do if you spot them in your baby or toddler.
  • What you need in your first aid kit. It's important to have a mini first aid kit in your home. We'll cover what you will need in this kit, which will come in handy if accidents do occur.
