Join us for our Infant & Toddler First Aid Workshop on Tuesday 23rd January 2024, 7-9.30pm

This information packed course focuses on expectant parents, and parents of young babies up to pre-school age, to grow and develop their skills in first aid for babies and toddlers in a safe, friendly, and educational environment. Grandparents and extended family members would also be welcome to attend this workshop.

The intention is not to provide attendees with a certificate, but to prepare attendees for real life scenarios which could occur at any time. The course will be delivered by our fantastic fully certified trainers.

When you sign up to our course, you will receive a free booklet by email jam packed with useful information from the NHS and St John Ambulance websites.

Our course will include:

How to resuscitate a baby or toddler

Our trainers will teach you the recovery position, and how to give baby and child CPR. Participants will also get the opportunity to practice using Baby Annie mannequins.

What to do if they choke

If an object obstructs a child’s airway it can cause a child to choke which can lead to death. Our trainers will cover the signs of choking and treatment for this. Again, participants will also get the opportunity to practice using Baby Annie mannequins.

How to treat burns

In the event of a burn or scold on a baby or toddler you should always seek medical advice. This covers anything from fire on clothing to sunburn and chemical burns and more.

How to deal with a high temperature

In children under 5, a fever is considered to be a temperature of 37.5C (99.5F) or above. We will teach you how to tell if your child has fever, how to care for your child, what medications to give and more.

How to recognise the signs of meningitis

Meningitis is an infection of the protective membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord (meninges). It can affect anyone, but is most common in babies, young children, teenagers and young adults. Meningitis can be very serious if not treated quickly. It is important for all parents and carers to know how to spot the signs of this and when to seek medical support. Here we cover all aspects of meningitis.

How to deal with a head injury

Most head injuries are not serious. You do not usually need to go to hospital and should make a full recovery within 2 weeks. We cover how to treat a head injury at home and when to seek medical attention.

What you need in your first aid kit

It is important to have a mini first aid kit in your home and we will teach you what you will need in this kit which may come in handy if any accidents did occur.
