  • Helping women to avoid alcohol in pregnancy

Pregnancy is a life changing event, and this may affect our close relationships, especially if parents are feeling overwhelmed. Most of us are tempted to have 'just the one' drink when we’re feeling stressed.

Peer support can really help to relieve stress during pregnancy by having someone who listens and doesn’t judge. Peer supporters also share useful tips and ideas from one parent to another.

Parents 1st UK are working with OnePlusOne to help parents understand why it's important to avoid alcohol during pregnancy, how they can manage stress and strengthen their relationships.

Please share your ideas of what works to avoid drinking alcohol when pregnant.

In my first pregnancy I remember feeling worried because I had been out partying and drinking with friends before I even realised I was pregnant.

Once I found out I stopped drinking completely, but there are loads of mixed messages out there about how much alcohol is ok. Some friends told me that it was fine to have one glass of wine with a meal once you were passed the first trimester. I also heard "drink Guiness as it contains iron which is good for the baby".

The reality is that there is no safe alcohol limit and pregnant mums should avoid alcohol to be safe.
