I joined Strengths in Communities (trading as Parents 1st) in 2017, following my retirement from full time senior roles in the voluntary sector. My personal experience of becoming a mum and then a grandparent, raised my awareness of the need for different approaches to perinatal support. These experiences include (within the family) still birth, Downs Syndrome, postnatal depression, mixed marriage cultural differences and single parenthood. I also had the privilege of being my daughter’s birth partner!
Professionally I bring to Strengths in Communities, and now to Parents 1st UK, leadership, governance, compliance and HR experience. I’m lucky to have excellent Directors and Trustees on the boards of the two organisations, most of whom are far more knowledgeable about perinatal support than me. I’m passionate about the fabulous work our staff and volunteers do, and have seen and heard with my own eyes and ears just how much our work is valued and appreciated by parents.
