Pregnancy Pals and Birth Buddies

Our Pregnancy Pals and Birth Buddy volunteers are parents, grandparents, or others with parenting experiences who are there to support families through their pregnancy and in the early months with a baby.

All volunteers receive training to be able to offer friendly support and encouragement to parents who are feeling overwhelmed, isolated or find it hard to access services. Our volunteers are there to listen and don’t judge

A volunteer can help a parent to:

  • Keep well during her pregnancy.
  • Help to explore her choices and find their own way forward
  • Attend appointments.
  • Help prepare for labour and birth.
  • Feel confident as a new parent.
  • Hep adjust to the new arrival.
  • Signpost to other support and services in the area
  • Go for a walk to help a parent get out and about.

If you would also like support during labour and birth, a birth buddy can offer emotional and practical support during this time.

You will want the best possible start for your baby and so do we.

"I was really nervous about everything. Having the peer support helped relieve my anxiety."

Every mum or dad has questions and may feel unsure or alone at times. We have all been there. That’s where Pregnancy Pals can really help. They live in the local community and give their time to help make becoming a parent an exciting time.

A Pregnancy Pal is 'someone in your corner' during your pregnancy and the early months after your baby is born.

"The support has been amazing. I was given lots of confidence that I wouldn’t otherwise have. She was a god send everybody should have this support."

A friendly listening ear over a cuppa and a chat can make all the difference.

"She was amazing her support and information was great. She went that extra mile... the support with my mental health and my feelings really stood out and her just being there for me."
