I worked in the NHS for 39 years as a nurse, Health Visitor and finally as an Assistant Director of Children's Community Services until 2019. 

In 2019 I joined 'A Better Start Southend'; a National Lottery Community Funded initiative working with families in the 6 most deprived wards in Southend. 

A Better Start Southend aims to improve the outcomes for children and their families in three key areas; Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language and Diet and Nutrition.

It is a 10 year programme with a test and learn philosphy that aims to demonstrate that early intervention and prevention is cost effective and makes a difference to the most vulnerable in our society
