Informal peer support can make a unique and invaluable contribution to achieving healthier pregnancies, better births and happier babies.

Parents 1st Essex was set up in 2008 by Celia Suppiah, a previous midwife and public health nurse, with a vision to enable peer support to flourish during pregnancy, birth and beyond. This is where most of the resources available on this site were first developed.
Other organisations:
Supports parents through the first 1,000 days of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood, including volunteering initiatives.
A national charity and training organisation dedicated to the promotion of emotional health at home, at school, and at work.
Supports a national network of volunteer programmes to help mums to manage their mental health and wellbeing.
Perinatal Peer Support is offered as part of the Flourishing Babies programme in Northampton and Kettering Districts of Northamptonshire. The project also offers support Groupwork, based on the "You, Me and Us" programme to support new families emotionally and practically in their journey into parenthood
Solace provides holistic peer support; befriending support during pregnancy and the initial postnatal period, in addition to birth partner support.
